Having faith during trying times is a cinch. Its the exercising of faith that becomes a challenge. At least faith in knowing all is well even when it does not appear to be. (Proverbs 3:5-6 AMP) “Trust in and rely confidently on the Lord with all your heart. And do not rely on your own insight or understanding. {6} In all your ways know and acknowledge and recognize Him“. So why is it so difficult and scary for us to exercise faith in God–Source of creation and turn towards man who’s unable to do anything without God to fulfill our desires? Is it that we believe someone else can get from God what we ourselves cannot? While this may be the case for many of us, the Bible directs us otherwise. (Jeremiah 17:7-8 AMP) “Blessed [with spiritual energy] is the man who believes and trusts in and relies on the Lord and whose hope and confident expectation is the Lord. {8} For he will be [nourished] like a tree planted by the water, that spreads out its roots by the river; and he will not fear the heat when it comes; but its leaves will be green and moist. And it will not be anxious and concerned in a year of drought nor stop bearing fruit”.

If these are the Words of God then why the heck are we soooo dependent on another? The answer resides in our underlying truths believed about God and ourselves.

“I can recall a time while working with my mentor I was struggling financially. Even though I had a conceptual knowing about how God’s Laws worked, deep down I didn’t believe God would move the same way for me. And when I really gave t a lot of thought I realized what was blocking me from God’s promises of abundance and prosperity. It all boiled down to two major thoughts I unknowingly held. The first one being my distrust in God. And second? That would have to be my sense of worthlessness. I didn’t believe I was right or good enough for God to be so good to me. As such, I couldn’t ‘see’ better for myself. The results of a poverty consciousness”.

At that moment I knew something had to give. I began questioning my own existence and concluded God don’t make junk. With this being the case I should only be expected to be treated as God’s prized possession. Think about it, what good would it do for God to stop being God by denying us anything that must be created? Isn’t creation in itself how God became God? The moment God ‘says’ no to creating is the moment God was never God. And we all know there is a Divine Presence on deck!

So how does one get past the fear of doing without while trusting in an unseen force Who’s progress is unable to be established? (James 1:6 AMP) “But he must ask [for wisdom] in faith, without doubting [God’s willingness to help], for the one who doubts is like a billowing surge of the sea that is blown about and tossed by the wind”. Know what you want and hold the feel good feeling of it. Avoid getting carried away by thoughts as they will lead you into a place of fear and defeat. Ask yourself how would you feel in that experience. Imagine what it would look like. If it’s a new career, visualize yourself in that role for that position. If a relationship is what your seeking, imagine how loving, kind, giving, and thoughtful you would be if fear wasn’t a factor. Then go out into the world and practice those qualities on others. Now I’m not advocating anyone to go out there and be Loosey Goosey or anything. I’m just saying become the person you desire to attract.

For me, my lack of faith was in ministering. I knew I was called but the grip fear had on me was no joke. That bad boy had me hemmed up in all sorts of ways. So I would high tail my rump into another direction. Hmph, believe me I knew just what my homie Jonah was going through. Knowing your supposed to do something for God yet being a coward. I mean…I knew what I knew but how I felt was a whole different ballgame.

I had to move through the discomfort of the sensations that are usually accompanied by doubt and fear as I kept my focus on the Provider who never says “No”. I constantly reminded myself God don’t make junk and I was not only a gift from God but also a gift God. As we all are. For it is only through us can God’s nature be known. And that is God’s only desire.
